Who we are

CCORRN is organisation governed by a management board, who act as a company limited by guarantee however they do not profit share nor are they paid any sums for their roles other than agreed out of pocket expenses incurred in pursuance of their role. The Management Board represents the interests of CCORRN's members rather than the specific organisations to which they are affiliated or employed by.

reveal profile Mark Shelton (Chairman)
The Waste Policy Manager for Cambridgeshire County Council and has been in post for over 8 years. Prior to this he was Recycling Officer for Cambridge City Council for 8 years. He is a Member of the Chartered Institute of Wastes Management and secretary to the Eastern Region Waste Management Forum. Previously, Mark graduated in Zoology and Genetics and was a research associate in the genetics department at Cambridge University before moving into teaching.

Mark has considerable knowledge of the whole waste management industry, and now manages a team of 7 staff, including two waste partnership offices, a campaigns officer and two recycling bus managers. His team has worked closely with the local District Councils to implement kerbside collection schemes for dry recyclables and green waste, and been involved in developing a number of awareness campaigns and community initiatives, including the award winning Slim Your Bin campaign, the Master Composter Programme, the Cambridgeshire Real Nappy Network and of course CCORRN and it's Choose2Reuse campaign. This partnership working has been integral to raising the recycling rate across Cambridgeshire to nearly 50% and enabling the partnership to be awarded Beacon Status in 2006.

Mark has five children and two step-children (only 2 still at home), and in what spare time they leave him, Mark enjoys cycling and keeps hens, bees and a large vegetable plot. He has been a parent school governor, chairman of the Parish Council for the village where he previously lived and is vice-chair of the village hall committee where he now lives.
reveal profile John Durrant (Treasurer)
John a former mayor and author of two local history books, is married with three children. He was first elected to Abbey in 1987. Early in 2004, John has been awarded two Beacon Prizes in recognition of his tireless work in the local community. John is treasurer of the East Barnwell Community Centre and was a leading figure in the fight to save it from closure; he is a trustee of the Folk Museum, a governor of Ditton Fields Nursery, and a trustee of Jimmy's Nightshelter. He is Governor of the Fields Early Years Learning Centre, Founder and Chair of the Cambridge Foodbank, Chair of Emmaus Cambridge, Founder of Cambridge Futures and Employed as the general manager of Newmarket open Door (Supported Housing for young people 18-30, training centre operating as a retail charity superstore).

Assists and advises packaging users and manufacturers in all aspects of environmental legislation, packaging waste, waste minimisation/resource efficiency, new product development, essential requirements regulations, and packaging hygiene.

John is retired after a career mainly in Human Resources and Training in UK and overseas. He is interested in environmentally sustainable communities - work with Sustainable Girton includes composting and local collection of reusable items for e.g. Tools for Self Reliance and charity shops. He also runs courses with U3A university of the Third Age) on environmental sustainability.

Kay has been a full member of the Chartered Institute in Wastes Management since 2003. Kay holds a Masters degree in Environmental Management and has just completed a Diploma in Management Studies. Kay has worked within the waste sector for 10 years working for a waste collection authority, as well as, a waste disposal authority. For the last three years Kay has worked for the community waste sector as a Development Officer for a local community reuse and recycling network. Kay became a Trustee of the Community Recycling Network UK in 2005. Kay now works for the charity Sue Ryder Care as their Business Development Manager for Recycling.

Richard is currently employed as the Group Health Safety and Environment Officer at MAHLE Powertrain Ltd, a company employing in excess of 500 personnel on various shift systems at their UK Sites: A complex, highly specialised and multi-faceted automotive casting machining and manufacturing organisation with it’s own UK Foundry.. Responsible for the ongoing review, maintenance and conformity of the Environmental Management Systems in accordance with ISO 14001 accreditation and EMAS Registration. Responsible for development of bespoke accident reduction strategies and health and safety policies with a view to making this group the safest within the global MAHLE organisation which is based in Stuttgart. Richard is jointly responsible for the development and delivery of a fully integrated management system (IMS) for QHS&E, encompassing OHSAS18001, ISO14001, TS16949, ISO9000 and EMAS Regulation. Implementation and review of the Risk Management strategies for the company operations

- Richard was previously employed as the Health, Safety, Environmental and Production Engineering Manager for Gates Hydraulics Ltd. Richard retired from the Royal Air Force in 1995 after a pensionable engagement of nearly seventeen years. Richard's career within the RAF began as an Aircraft Engineering Technician and ended following some radical life-changing decisions (together with considerable re-training) as an Environmental Health Inspector. Richard then served several years with Cotswold District Council Environmental Health Department as a Specialised Food Safety & Health and Safety Enforcement Inspector before moving on to head up Lidl UK GmbH as their UK Food Safety, H&S, Customer Services and Trading Standards Manager for several years.

Paid and voluntary work career spanning 18 years includes the founding of several service based community social enterprises with charitable aims.

An experienced director of many organisations including Director of the National Childminding Association she has latterly been succesfully elected as a Parish Councillor.

With an employment history that includes, quality assurance system initiation and implementation, design and marketing incl. direct sales and campaign management, event conception and co-ordination, teaching of adult learners at various colleges,  training design and delivery, community and organisational and behavioural change development work, research team manager, network support and co-ordination, project management incl risk analysis and currently fulfilling the role of Programme Manager encompassing several key projects, consultancy services and the Operational Management of CCORRN.

Mary has worked in the voluntary sector as a volunteer for over 8 years, being a School Governor, Chair of Benwick Butterflies Preschool, and a Parent Board Member for Sure-Start South Fenland.

Mary also had the day to day responssibilty  for running FCLS  AKA Honeybee Babies ( a Cloth Nappy Community project) until its closure earlier this year.
